Professionally, Mike began this phase of his career in 2012 as a fashion photographer, working with renowned brands such as Patagonia, Adidas, and Reebok. His keen eye for detail and creative drive eventually propelled him into content direction and brand strategy.

From local instructor to world renowned coach

There’s no way Gimme Studio can claim responsibility for all of the success Dan’s achieved – he’s a fantastic coach who had built a strong local reputation long before we joined forces. However, we were able to add significant value to his business; sometimes all it takes is an extra pair of hands, or a fresh perspective, to accelerate growth and sharpen focus. We worked together from 2016 to 2019, and have very recently picked up our collaboration again. Here’s how we teamed up to elevate his brand and online presence.

The Starting Point

Dan was already a respected local coach, attracting many low-handicap golfers to his stable, but his online reach was limited. His YouTube channel sat at just 1,800 subscribers, and while he wanted to expand digitally and diversify his income, there were no concrete goals to guide that growth.

What We Did

Early on, we suggested positioning Dan as an “elite golf coach” to reflect the caliber of his clientele. While the phrase itself isn’t an industry standard, pairing it with the content we produced successfully reinforced Dan’s status. We then redesigned his website to unify his branding and more accurately convey his coaching philosophy.

We set a consistent YouTube schedule, turning Dan’s expertise into an ongoing series that cultivated a highly engaged audience. In addition, we introduced paid video programs, providing an extra revenue stream beyond his in-person lessons.

As Dan’s online profile rose, he secured sponsorships with Srixon, Titleist, and ultimately Under Armour. His partnership with Under Armour evolved to the point where his studio became an Under Armour Performance Centre, and the added credibility allowed him to steadily increase his lesson fees.

Over our three years working together, Dan’s YouTube channel grew from 1,800 to around 45,000 subscribers, attracting a global audience of golf enthusiasts. Part of this success came from strategic collaborations with prominent YouTube creators, which exposed Dan’s coaching to brand-new viewers.

Increased visibility fuelled a surge in lesson bookings, and his new sponsorships solidified Dan’s reputation as an industry-recognised coach. Today, he represents some of the leading names in golf while continuing to grow his business.
